Newport, RI - John ?Jack? ?Spider Morgan? Henry Morgan, Jr., 73, of 70 Ellery Road Newport, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Heatherwood Nursing And Subacute Center Newport, RI. Born in Newport, RI on September 27, 1930, he was the son of the late John Henry and Frances Marie Jones Morgan. Mr. Morgan served in the United States Marines and Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Morgan played Baseball and basketball while in school at de La Salle and Rogers High School. In 1948 he pitched for the Newport Point Hummers. Also in 1948 he was scouted out by the NY Yankees but enlisted into the Marines. After his service in Korea he attended the University of Houston, after graduation he returned to Newport and worked as a Surveyor and in 1957 he went to work at the US Naval Supply Depot as a computer specialist in the data processing and analysis program division until 1965 and then went to work for the Newport Naval Hospital retiring in 1989. During the 1970?s Mr. Morgan was very active in coached CYO Basketball and Babe Ruth Baseball and Newport Little League, he hosted tournaments and hosted the players families during them. He was an avid golfer at Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club and enjoyed the America?s Cup Races. He is survived by three daughters Michelle Elizabeth Walker and Lisa Marie ODonnell both of Newport, RI, and Dana Katherine Murphy of Middletown, RI, one cousin Muriel Morgan Zammer of Newport, RI, and eight grandchildren.His funeral will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004, at 9:00 AM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in Island Annex Cemetery in Newport.Donations in his memory may be made to the James L. Maher Center, PO Box 4390, Middletown, RI 02842.
