"To the McCarthy's: I have always admired you guys as a family and fortunately I have a great family of my own, something I value very much. I know Mike was such a big part of your family, that has only become stronger. I have three older sisters but no older brothers and I always thought if I had an older brother, that I wanted one like Rino's. Stay strong and I know I can speak for the rest of the gang, we're here if ya need us. For anything. sincerely, Mike Scott"

Melissa Crawford - September 1.. wrote on Sep 10, 2004:

"Mike loved Youth Ministry. He loved the kids, the activities, the talks, discussions, and the challenges. He could relate to every kid that came on every retreat. And if he couldn't relate to them at first, he took the time to get to know and understand them. And that's what I will remember most about Mike-he appreciated that everyone was unique. He made the kids on those retreats feel like they had a purpose-and undoubtedly had a lasting influence on many of them. So many kids looked up to Mike. He was easy to like and get along with. And he always made you feel like he had all the time in the world no matter who you were. The world has lost an incredibly giving person, but heaven has gained one great soul. Kelly, I am thinking about you and your family every day."

I wanted you to know that I am praying for you and hope that you can be uplifted by the peace of Christ and the love of family and friends during this difficult time. Even though I never met Michael, I know I would have loved to hang out with him. May all the great memories you have of him and his life continue to warm your heart. Janet, I will always remember the encouragement I felt from your Dad who attended all my football games. He was always there and made a point to talk to me after each game. I suspect Michael was very much like him. All my love, Tim Tremblay"

"Mike truly embodied the definition of friendship. If you were in a room full of strangers, Mike would make you feel right at ease, comfortable, and at home. His gifts of humor, personality, simplicity, and a tremendous heart were all cherished. On our whitewater rafting trip, an exhausted crew had made its way down the mighty Kenebec River in ME, low on energy after a wild ride, Mike cut through our weary silence with an inspirational start to the Star Spangled Banner to motivate us. Soon, we began to paddle like champs again. My Stonehill years with Mike from '95-'98 were a treasure full of great times and meaning and I will always keep him close to me."

"Michael was an incredible role model for all young people. From the time we met him doing Youth Ministry at St. Lucy's until recently when I met him at a mentoring workshop in Tiverton he shared his gifts and talents with all the people he encountered. Michael treated every person that walked through the door on retreat with respect and kindness and I am sure it was the same in his classroom and on the field. It is a tragic loss for everyone he touched, however, it is you his family and close friends that we are praying for everyday.
