Clara Escobar Brandao

Clara Escobar Brandao, of Grand Islander Health Care Ceneter in Middletown, RI died Thursday, January 06, at the Grand Islander.She was the wife of the late Manuel Augusto Brandao.Born in Middletown, RI on September 14, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Antoine Silva Escobar and Clara Melo Escobar.Mrs. Brandao grew up in Faial, Azores. She was a member of Jesus Saviour Church and the Homemakers Club of Jesus Saviour. She and her family were instrumental in reactivating the celebration of the Holy Ghost Feast within Jesus Saviour Church. Mrs. Brandao was also a volunteer at Grand Island Health Care Center for many years. She was a seamstress, loved flowers and she had a great green thumb. She is survived by two daughters Mary Melvin of Punta Gorda, FL, Irene Giardano of Jacksonville, FL, one brother Manuel Escobar of Middletown, and 7 Grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her son Anthony Brandao and several brothers and sisters.Her funeral will be held Monday, January 10 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI 02840 followed with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00am in Jesus Savior Church, Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will be in St. Columbus Cemetery.
