We eventually come around. It's never too late to be who you want to be. You are no longer visable my dear dad, but you are so close. You planted the seed! It Grows in me. Thank you."

"My sincere condolences to the Furtado family. I have known Anthony since I was 8 years old and have the fondest memories of him while growing up on the Point. I was fortunate to be able to work on many jobs with Anthony and he has taught me so much about the building trade over the years. He was truly one of the best Master Craftsman in this area, and Newport and Bowens Wharf are an excellent example of his skills. I will always remember him, especially as I walk Bowens Wharf area as I believe that he laid each and every brick by hand on the walkways himself! I was one of the very few who got to witness his ice fishing skills in New Hampshire and will never forget that trip. He will be missed by many in this area but remembered by all."

"Hang in there Mom - you are definitely in my thoughts and prayers Dad, Mostly, the past few weeks are a big blurr. Underneath the sadness and disbelief that you are actually gone I am grateful we got to know each other over these past years. I also feel a sense of peace that your long suffering is over. Mom and I threw out all your pills, however we were not able to take your suggestion and put them all in a barrel in the middle of the backyard and set them on fire. I keep thinking about how brave you really were. In the last days you faced death on a daily basis while those of us around you were doing our best at Hospice 101. I didnâ??t even get to finish the â??When Death is Nearâ?A pamphlet. I had to read it the next day just to be sure thatâ??s what really happened! I know you were more ready than any of us would ever be . . . . . . . One of your concerns was that you would not have the courage as your brother Frank. As with the many life lessons I have learned from you most of them ranking in the top 5 of life lessons your final example of letting go is without a doubt the finest example of courage I have ever seen. I am certain it will continue to serve me in the days ahead. Thanks for teaching me stuff I needed to know. You are in my heart, Selene"

"Dear Family, Lots of memories, but a few are outstanding--like this one. It was 1976 and I had just given birth to my first child. On day two, Uncle Anthony appeared in my Newport Hospital room. I was surprised and touched at the unexpected visit. I shuffled down to the nursery with him, he tapped on the glass, and instructed the nurse, "Hold up that little Portugee with the German name!" She laughed, and so did I. What a wonderful sense of humor. These have been diffucult years as all of the uncles, aunts, my Dad, have suffered the effects of aging, then passed. What would we all do without our faith? Say hi to my Dad in heaven."
