Portsmouth, RI - Robert Lawrence Gray, Sr., 67, of 33 Gormley Avenue, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, October 20, 2008 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI, with his daughter Victoria by his side. He was the husband of the late Carolyn A. Marley Gray, for 30 years. Born in Newport, RI on November 4, 1940, he was the son of the late John F. Gray and Lois M. Minkler.Mr. Gray worked for Bowler, Van and Storage beginning in 1960 and then for ABF as a truck driver, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 251. Mr. Gray loved fishing on his boat Princess with his beloved Carolyn. He is survived by his children, Victoria Settle and her husband Thomas of Middletown, RI, Raymond Gray and his wife Carol of Middletown, RI: his stepchildren: Marilyn Manville and her husband Antone of Middletown, RI, Cindy Greenman of West Palm Beach, FL, Thomas Corey of Newport, RI, Barbara Monllos and her husband John of Newport, RI, Carolyn Satterthwaite of Virginia Beach, VA, Dwayne Corey of Exeter, RI and Michael Corey of North Kingstown, RI, twelve grandchildren, one great grandson and his brothers Calvin Gray of Newport, RI and John Gray of Bristol, RI.He was the father of the late Robert L. Gray, Jr. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008, at 8:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am, in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 23, 2008, from 4-7 in the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

"Bob and I worked many nights together at ABF. Bob and I got along together probably closer than his other co-workers. Bob often confided in me with his 401K which I talked him into. Going to miss him. We retired the same year. I went Jan.1 2000. I tried a few times to contact him to no avail."
