Fred John LoPiano
August 18, 1928 - October 22, 2008

Middletown, RI - Fred John LoPiano, USN, Ret. 80, of 23 Willow Avenue, Middletown, RI, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008. He was the loving husband of Jean F. Kilcline Mahoney LoPiano. Born in Lawrence, MA on August 18, 1928, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Ignazia Maida LoPiano.Mr. LoPiano served in the United States Navy during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He also worked on the Naval Base in the personnel and human resources department for 22 years, retiring in 1989. He was a communicant of St. Lucys Church. Mr. LoPiano was a member of the Military Officers Association of America and the AARP. He enjoyed collecting coins, stamps and baseball cards. He was also a former member of the Green Valley Country Club and coach many years for the Middletown Little League and Babe Ruth League. He was a lifetime avid Boston Sports fan. Besides his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his sons Fred John LoPiano, Jr. and his wife Karen of Nashua, NH, Michael F. LoPiano and his wife Gisela of Westwood, MA and Jack Mahoney of Brunswick, ME, his brothers Michael A. LoPiano of Columbia, MD and Dr. William J. LoPiano of Tempe, AZ, his sister Josephine Roy of Reading, MA and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Angelo J. LoPiano, Victor LoPiano, Samuel LoPiano,Amelia Arivella and Nancy Scionti. His funeral will be private.Memorial donations may be made to Marine and Navy Relief Society, NMCRS, 875 North Randolph Street, Suite 225, Arlington, VA 22203 or the VNS of Newport and Bristol County, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
