Middletown, RI - Lillian Hall Sherman Foberg, 91, of Middletown, died peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2009 at Heatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newport with her family by her side. She had formerly resided at Village House Nursing Home in Newport. She was the wife of the late Charles W. Foberg. Born in Newport, RI on June 16, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Alton P. and Elizabeth Underwood Sherman.Mrs. Foberg was a 1935 graduate of Rogers High School. She was a member of the Republican Womans League, the Pocahontas Tribe of Loyal Order Redman and a former member of the Portsmouth Grange. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, needle point, card clubs and especially family gatherings. She is survived by her son, Ronald S. Foberg of Middletown, RI, her daughter, Beth A. Foberg of Middletown, RI, her grandson, Jeromy M. Foberg, her great-granddaughter, Alyssa Gatta, her granddog, Onyx, and also many grand and great nieces and nephews.She was the grandmother of the late Steven Michael Proulx and the sister of the late Merrill J. Sherman, Alton P. Sherman, Jr., and Ruth E. Sherman. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 7 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 30, 2009 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
