Portsmouth, RI - Francis J. Jerry OLoughlin, 87, of 20 Indian Avenue, George Town Apartments, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at home surrounded by his family.He was the husband of Iolanda Santopadre OLoughlin. Born in Newport, RI on July 29, 1921, he was the son of the late John J. and Marion Gibson OLoughlin.Mr. OLoughlin was a loving husband and father. He worked for Newport Electric for 42years and he was a registered land surveyor for over 40 years, surveying extensive areas of Aquidneck and Conanicut Islands. He also designed many homes on Aquidneck Island. Francis was a member and past officer of the Secular Franciscan Order and the former Serra Club. He was an avid reader. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Besides his wife of 51 years, he is survived by his children, Marie Jenkins and her husband, Peter of Little Compton, RI, Peter OLoughlin of Newport, RI, John OLoughlin and his wife, Stephanie of Portsmouth, RI, Susan Olson and her husband, Donald of Portsmouth, RI, Thomas OLoughlin and his wife, Sheryl of Middletown, RI and Stephen OLoughlin of Westwood, MA, his sister, Gertrude T. OLoughlin of Middletown, RI, his granddaughters, Julie, Emily, Alexandra and Corinne OLoughlin and his great-granddaughter Averey Dansereau.He was the brother of the late Robert G. OLoughlin. His funeral will be held on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 9 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2009 from 3-6 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
