Portsmouth, RI - John Edward Riley, 42, of 123 Highland Road, Portsmouth, RI, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at home. He was the husband of Rhonda Silvestro Riley. Born in Newport, RI on September 24, 1967, he was the son of John J. Riley Jr. of Warwick, RI and Patricia A. McCarthy-Hareld of Seekonk, MA.John worked for the Stop Shop Company for 25 years, working in several different stores, and most recently as Grocery Manager. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister Michele LeFort and her husband James of Portsmouth, a sister Colleen Ferland and her husband John of Pawtucket, and a brother Jamie Riley and his wife Jessica of Fall River, MA, and a sister Shannon Hareld of East Providence, an uncle Jimmy Riley of Falls Church VA, and aunt Janet Boyd and her husband Dennis of Berwick, ME. He was the uncle and godfather to Ashley and Kaileigh LeFort, and uncle to Madison and Dylan Riley, Brianna Vierra, Alyssa and Tory McCaughey, Miranda, Nicholas, and Madison Silvestro. He is also survived by his best friend Derek Correia, his step parents Donna Riley and Charles Hareld, brother in law Ronald C. Silvestro Jr and his wife Gina, and sister in law Robin Kelley and her husband Kevin. He was the beloved son in law to Ronald and Frances Tiny Silvestro formerly of Johnston, RI. He was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Pauline McCarthy, and John and Florence Riley. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 4, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Anthonys Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.Burial will be in Pocassett Hill Cemetery in Tiverton.Calling hours will be held Tuesday, November 3 from 4:00-8:00pm in the Connors Funeral Home. "John and I were good friends from the time I moved to Seekonk from Rehoboth in the 6th grade up until the time in 11th grade he moved to Portsmouth to live with his dad.I will remember all the good times we shared.He was a very good frien as well as true indeed.I new him in Stop and Shop,he got me a job there.I will always remember him and the good heart he had.My condolences to the rest of his family.I new Michelle and colleen,Charlie and mom Mrs. Riley. always a friend ,Scott Felix"
