Newport, RI - James E. Tedder, 80, of Newport, RI, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.He was the husband of the late Billie A. Chandler Tedder. Born in Haines City, FL on September 20, 1929, he was the son of the late John R. and Carolyn Batchlor Tedder.Mr. Tedder enlisted in the USN September 9, 1950 and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 1957. He was commissioned Ensign in 1958 and served in Destroyer forces and various shore assignments until his retirement on August 1, 1982. He was an avid gardener but family was his prime interest. He is survived by his sons John R. Tedder and Barry S. Tedder both of Warwick, RI, and nine grandchildren.He was the father of the late James V. Tedder and Myra A. Geriak.Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home. 375 Broadway, Newport.His services and burial will be private In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road Portsmouth, RI 02871.

"I am Echo, Kathy and james daughter, I want to say I am so sorry to hear he passed! He was such a sweet man! I waiited every year to get his christmas card. He would catch us up on everything bthere and make me feel like family! When I went in the Army he even helped mom understand what all was going on in boot camp, life in the service, etc. He was alway so great to us!! Which made us worry when we did not hear from him! I found this online and wanted to say I am very sorry but you all were so lucky to have so much time with him!!
