Leslie Gail Oliver, age 74 of Lakeway, TX, formerly of Newport, RI, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 22, 2010.Gail was born on August 20, 1936, in Boston, MA, to Leslie J. Carter and Mary Carter. She grew up in Boston and Wellesley and attended schools there. Gail lived a full life; she lived in Bermuda, Germany, New York City, Newport, RI, and Austin, TX. She traveled Europe and worked for the American Red Cross while her husband was stationed with the Army overseas. Her life was dedicated to raising her four children. Her homes, especially the Birds Nest on One Mile Corner, were always open to the many friends, extended family, and at times strangers. Gail loved people and loved to share stories. Her stories will be missed.After retiring from the Naval War College, Gail and Ian resided in Austin, TX before settling in Lakeway, TX.Gail is survived by her husband Ian C. G. Oliver, daughters Leslie Tilson and her husband Donald of Westlake, TX, Susan Oliver of Newport, RI, and Heather Oliver of Middletown, RI, her son Bruce Oliver and his wife Clara of Austin, TX, her grandchildren, Barrett and Logan Tilson, Hailey Santos, Paige and Maggie Oliver, her sisters Joan Gibbs and husband David, Barbara Mauchan and husband Charlie, her brother Paul Bruce Carter and wife Maria, her nieces Leslie Agulnick, Renee Perry and their families and her nephew Carter Mauchan.Gail was preceded in death by her brother Steven Carter.Gail will be greatly missed by her family and the many lives she has touched along the way.A memorial service will be held at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, on October 29, 2010, from 4-7pm with a private family burial in Boston, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 1015 Aquidneck Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842.
