Herve G. Tremblay, of Woodside, NY and formerly Middletown, RI, died May 8th, 2011 after a brief illness. Herve was the son of the late Edgar Tremblay and the late Dorilla Tremblay of Acushnet, Massachusetts. A native of New Bedford, Massachusetts, Herve attended parochial school in that city. Despite being an excellent student, he dropped out of school in the eighth grade during the Depression years in order to go to work and provide financial assistance for his large family. Immediately following Pearl Harbor, he and his lifelong friend, the late Arthur Lavigne, enlisted into military service. Herve served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in Guadalcanal and the Russell Islands and briefly during the Korean War to train Marine recruits at Camp Lejeune, NC. He also served as a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Reserves with a 155mm Howitzer battalion in Newport, RI, prior to and following the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he returned home to Middletown, RI and started his vocational career working civil service positions at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in RI, retiring in 1972. He then worked in Newport, RI, maintaining facilities at the Elks Lodge and the Hulslander Credit Bureau Agency until the mid-80s. Herve was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Jeanne Devlin Tremblay, his sons Herve G. Tremblay, Jr. and David S. Tremblay, his sisters, Connie Denise, Lucille Major, Violet Lacroix.He is survived by his wife, Erlinda Fernandez Tremblay, his sons Timothy G. Tremblay and his wife, Barbara, of Clemmons, NC, Jeffrey W. Tremblay and his wife Lisa, of Portsmouth, RI, and his daughter, Maureen J. Vaillancourt and her husband, Charles, of Middletown, RI, seven grandchildren, Kelly Crider, Jill Dell, Megan Wollasten, Patrick Vaillancourt, Ryan Vaillancourt, Zachary Tremblay and Molly-Jeanne Tremblay, four great-grandchildren and his sisters Roland Dube and Pauline Patterson.Herve was an avid salt-water fisherman, gardener, and stayed busy doing all of his own maintenance work at his home and also for his children. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Newport, RI. He loved to play golf with his friends and enjoyed any and all opportunities to get on the dance floor. The enjoyment of these hobbies and interests were surpassed only by his love for family and the times they shared.Family and friends in the Queens, NY area are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 4-8pm, at the Kennedy-Roth Funeral Home, 41-45 58th Street, Woodside, NY. A funeral service at St. Sebastians Catholic Church, 58-02 Roosevelt Avenue, Woodside, NY will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10:00am. The family will greet friends in the church Parish House following the service. An additional funeral service will be held in Rhode island with calling hours on Friday, May 13, 2011, from 4:00-8:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI and on Saturday, May 14, at 10:00am in St. Lucys Catholic Church, West Main Road, Middletown, RI. Burial will follow in St. Columbas Cemetery, 465 Browns Lane in Middletown, RI.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.
