Frank J. Faria, 89, of Jepson Lane, Portsmouth, RI, died peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2011 at home with his loving family at his side.He was husband of 58 years to the late Evelyn M. Bertrand Faria who passed away in 2006.Born in Middletown, RI on April 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Antone and Frances Moitoza Faria.A lifelong farmer, Frank, along with late wife, Evelyn, owned and operated Faria Brand Potatoes. He was previously employed by the former Round House Dairy.He is survived by his children, Christine Handibode and her husband, Peter, of Beverly Hills, FL Frank Faria, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of North Kingstown, RI, Richard Faria and his wife, Donna, of Portsmouth, RI, and Dawn Mello and her husband, Mark, of Portsmouth, RI; his grandchildren, David Mello, Monica Faria Baird, Daniel Faria, Nicole Mello and Timothy Mello; and his great-grandchildren, Madisyn Mello, Sita Nalani Baird and Kala Moana Baird. He was the grandfather of the late Joey Mello and the brother of the late Annie Oliver, Jennie Luiz, Mary Botelho, Carrie Rose, Rose Peters, Frances Medeiros, Anthony Faria, Joseph Faria and Manuel Faria.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:30 am from Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 4-8 pm in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to VNS of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871 or to St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
