Edward F. Murphy, 91, of Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, RI, died peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Newport Hospital. Born in Fall River, MA on June 22, 1920, he was the son of the late Christopher P. and Frances L. McVey Murphy.Mr. Murphy was a World War II veteran of the US Navy serving in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. He later worked in the Hotel industry for many years. He was a 1937 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and a graduate of Bryant College. He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard.He is survived by two sisters, Phyllis Chrupcala of Westport, MA and Claire Murphy of Portsmouth, RI; a brother, Frank Murphy of Portsmouth, RI; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was the brother of the late Christopher P. Murphy, Jr., Henry P. Murphy and Marion L. Giblin, formerly all of Portsmouth, RI.Funeral services will be private.
