"My condolences to Wade's family on such an untimely loss. I had seen Wade a few years back after losing touch (as life's events unfolded), and stopped to say hello - it was as if I had seen him the week before. I was saddened to know that he was taken from family and friends so soon. Please know many thoughts and prayers are with you and yours at this time.Marilyn (Beach) RIchards"
"The first time I saw Wade, the new guy from California, I couldn't help but notice how different he looked from every other guy in high school. First, it was the hair. Wild, frizzy, out of control, awesome. Then, his clothes. He wasn't wearing a t-shirt or a football shirt or even a polo shirt. It was more like a silky, Hawaiian, flowery dress shirt, and he wore it over light blue, pretty tight corduroy pants. He wore a leather choker with a small IXOYE pendant around his neck. And, last but not least, he was barefoot. Walking in school barefoot. That was it. I fell instantly in love. Wade and I spent 4 very critical years together in both of our lives. He helped me get through my parent's divorce, I helped him get through the death of his mother. He taught me how to drive (in a pinto!) with Peter Frampton's Baby I Love Your Way blaring out the windows. He taught me how to play guitara"not like Peter Frampton, more like James Taylor. Wade was a wonderful musician, he played guitar and sang beautifully. He wrote poetry and songs, and shared them with me often. One day he surprised me and brought me a dollhouse he made just for me. He told me it was a replica of the house we would one day live in together. You can't make this stuff up... this is what 15-year old love is! When I left Portsmouth High School in the middle of my junior year, I didn't take many friends with me. But Wade still came to see me in Newport when I was quite lost and lonely, and when he left for California after high school, he sent me a one way bus ticket to come visit him. And I dida"traveling five straight days and nights alone on a bonanza bus to West Covina. But the years eventually moved us both in different directions and we lost touch with one other. I went back to Vermont to go to college and he went back to New England. The funny thing is I ended up in California for almost 30 years, and just moved back to Portsmouth 4 years ago. And the weird thing is just last week I was having lunch with my mom and I asked her if she knew where Wade was living because I really, really wanted to see him again. Just to see if he was still walking around barefoot. You never forget your first love. I'm sad to say goodbye today to mine. May he rest in peace, barefoot and carefree."
"Wade really did love you...so many hours listening to him talk about you. I really thought he would marry you, his sister Victoria"
"I so remember my brother Wade wearing this shirt and his Christian Fish symbol around his neck."
"It is with great saddness that I hear of Wade's passing, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.Ran into Wade in Edgartown several years ago and we sharded a great dinner with his island friends @ his home in Katama Bay. He was always a great host and chef, we all sharded many laughs that night. He will be missed.Missy Flanagan, old roommate from 11 Chapel St., Newport"
"Del, Was sad to hear of Wade's passing. Several years ago he had stopped by our place when we lived in Sac City, IA & enjoyed a quail supper my husband had prepared. He was so amazed by how tiny the wishbone was. I think that may have started his cooking fantasy! May God be with you & your family, & know that you are in our thoughts & prayers.Sonia (Haahr) BrownKirk & Graham"
"Laura, Del and family, I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Kyle Beach"
"To by brother Wade, I will always remember the first day I was brought into the DeForest home as your foster sister, how you opened your heart and shared Mom and Dad with me, and always thought of me as your real sister. I am sorry we lost touch after many years ...but I never ever stopped thinking of you and keeping you in my heart. Say "hi" to Mom Audrey for me. Love, your sister Victoria McWhorter, DeForest, Bringhurst"
