Annabelle Lee (Johnson) Coofer, 82, of Newport, RI, passed away at the Forest Farm Nursing Home in Middletown, RI on Saturday, November 17, 2012.Annabelle was born on May 27, 1930 in Newport, RI, the daughter of the late Marjorie (Yates) Johnson and Leroy Johnson. She was married to the late Frank Coofer, Jr. for 52 years. She graduated from Rogers High School, Newport, RI in 1948 and was the recipient of the high schools Quote Club Award. She worked as a licensed child care provider for many years; she was also a personal assistant to several widows and an inspector at Bristol Knit in Fall River and as a clerk for the former Al Gamins Company.She was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Newport. She is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Price of Spotsylvania, VA, Jennifer Coofer of Lowell, MA and Gaynell Thompkins of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons, Barry Coofer of Middletown, RI and Steven Coofer of Lexington, KY. She leaves two siblings, Marjorie Harris of Stanton, CA and Leonard Coleman of Middletown, RI; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves her foster grandson, Brandon Hawkins of Chula Vista, CA and close friends, Josephine and Johnnie Brown of Newport, RI. Preceding her in death were her sisters, Alice Simmons and Evelyn Godbolt.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 12 noon in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd., Newport, RI. Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 from 11 am - 12 noon in the church prior to the funeral service.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cri-du-Chat Syndrome, 5P Society, Treasurer, PO Box 268, Lakewood, CA 90714-0268.
