Janice D. Lema, 69, of Middletown, RI, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2013 surrounded by her precious family. Janice and her husband, retired Middletown Police Captain, Frank J. Lema, Sr. enjoyed 48 years of friendship, marriage and companionship. Together they raised five children, Rebecca Souza of Florida, Justin Lema of Cranston, RI, Frank Lema, Jr., Alison Lema and Austin Lema, all of Middletown, RI. Born in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late Jovita and Joseph Lewis, and was sister to the late Edward P. Lewis. Janice was a graduate of St. Catherine's Academy in Newport. She was the proud owner and operator of the former Frank's Country Store Deli, where she enjoyed working alongside her family and feeding the community for more than 15 years. Janice continued her hospitality career at Foxwoods, where she worked for 12 years. Janice will forever be remembered for her generosity, kind spirit and desire to enrich the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed by her beloved grandchildren, whom she enjoyed spending countless hours with through an incredible friendship and love. In lieu of flowers, please honor Janice's memory with a donation to RI Pink Heals, 53 Providence Street, Suite 5, West Warwick, RI 02893. Although she was not affected by illness herself, she was passionate about helping others in need. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from 4-9 pm with a Police and Public Service walk through at 5 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 8 am from Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Spring Street and Memorial Blvd., Newport, RI.
