Newport, RI - Christina Angela (DeMatteo) Laurin, 88, of Newport, RI, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at John Clarke Nursing Home, Middletown, RI.Born in Newport, RI on November 23, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Maria (Manselli) DeMatteo. Mrs. Laurin worked as a CNA and a Head housekeeper for many years. She enjoyed gardening and baking but nothing brought her more pleasure then spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.She is survived by her children, Tina Vars and her husband Kevin, Steven Laurin and his wife Chris and Charles Laurin and his wife Betty, her grandchildren, Nicola Smith, Michael Porco, Angela Varacalli, Sean Laurin, Heather Casey, Adam Laurin and Joseph Laurin and her great grandchildren, Dylan Antignani Porco, Reilly Varacalli, Katelyn Varacalli, Benjamin Viera, Jaimee Viera, Brady Laurin, Tyler Casey, Lily Laurin, Shea Laurin and Finn Laurin.She was the sister of the late Filomena McFarland, Antoinette Anderson and Eugene DiMatteo.Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013, from 6-8, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. "I've known Mrs Laurin for many years, she is my sister's mother-in-law. As the years went by we would see her in my sister & brother-in-law's home and she never forgot us and was always very sweet. I also enjoyed her sense of humor. One of my fondest memories of Mrs. Laurin was seeing her chatting with my parents ((Douglas & Christine Huss, who are both deceased).
