William L. "Bill" Seward

William L. "Bill" Seward, 73, of Middletown, RI, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of the late Catherine (Reis) Seward. Born in Bethlehem, PA on May 16, 1940, he is the son of the late Elbert and Grace (Bealer) Seward.Mr. Seward was a veteran of the US Navy. Bill was a firefighter with the Newport Fire Department for 25 years before retiring in 1994. As a firefighter, he was very active in volunteering for the Muscular Dystrophy Association each year. Bill was a member of the Knight of Columbus formerly in Newport. He was a huge History buff. Bill became a Christian in 2004 and professed his belief in Jesus Christ. He will be forever remembered for his loving generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand or encouragement to others.He is survived by his children, Mary Anne Willburn and her husband, David, of Tiverton, RI, Catherine Kennedy of Brockton, MA and Anthony Seward and his wife, Susan, of North Carolina; his sister, Marjorie Seward of Brockton, MA; his son-in-law, Patrick Kennedy of Tiverton, RI; his grandchildren, Christopher Kennedy and his companion, Courtney Lemasa, Erin Carr and her husband, Joseph, Marshall Kaempf and Travis Kaempf; his great grandchildren, Jameson Carr and Landon Carr, and his special little girl, Arianna Silvia; and his close companion, Ruby Ammons of South Carolina.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 3-6 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home at 6 pm. Burial in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI will be private.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the John Clarke Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 600 Valley Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
