"Mr. Haywood will remain one of my main inspirations. As a teacher and friend, he almost single-handedly turned my life around. He had the prophetic vision to say that I'd one day have the special career I do, when no one else would've thought it, not even me. What a kind, loving man, who offered me the sort of freedom to thrive when so much in school and out of school wouldn't. We didn't agree on politics one bit and at the beginning or end of the day none of that matters. "Water is the only drink for a man, except gin," on his wall. Yes, what a person. I could never thank him enough. B.R."

"P. J. Haywood was one of my favorite high school teachers at Homewood Flossmoor High School back in the late 1960's. I was so sorry to see that he has left this world, althought I am sure he left it in a better place for his wonderful sense of humor, genius, and teaching. My sincere condolances to his family and friends.Debbie Martin Barford"
