"I just found out about Rita's passing and I want to extend my deepest sympathies to her family. I knew Rita for many years through the Newport Hospital Auxiliary. I have worked at the hospital for 27 years and have worked on many a project with her great assistance and knowledge. She was a great lady and tireless volunteer and advocate for the hospital. I will always be grateful for her support and help with the projects we worked on together. Her legacy remains in the many beautiful pieces of art work she worked so diligently to obtain, arrange, and spread throughout the hospital. They have and continue to be enjoyed by all the patients, visitors, and staff. One particular memory I will always cherish is when I had observed her so patiently and carefully overseeing the mounting and arrangement of each and every piece of art work she commandeered. They were her special "babies" so to speak and she was very good at taking care of them. Rest in Peace Rita, you will be greatly missed, but always remembered.Katharine M. Hernden"

"Aunt Rita was very dear to me and my family and I will treasure the memories of being with her and of our newsy, long -lasting phone calls .She was always the "fun" aunt and I loved to be with her She understood how I felt as a teen and young woman, and I appreciated and learned from her wisdom..Rita was the wife of my mother's brother, Harry,,and is the last of a long line of aunts and uncles. It is with the deepest regret that my husband and I are unable to attend her wake and Mass. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Terry and her nieces and nephew and other family members. I will miss her to be sure, but I think the Lord has already greeted her: "Well done, good and faithful servant"with our love and prayers,, Larry and Mary(Gallagher) Battersby"
