"I send my sympathy to all the family of Lois. I got to know Lois when she came to visit our home with my sister Anne Shaw. My husband and I really enjoyed getting to know Lois. She was fun and kind and thoughtful. She told some of her stories and listened to some of ours. I found her very down-earth and open minded. I had already heard about her for years from Anne so it was great to meet the real person. And she was a real person on the best sense of the phrase. I saw her another year in Ft Lauderdale before she and Anne went on a cruise. I spent the night with them and I was struck again by her authenticity and her joy in living. . Then another time she offered the use of an apartment when my husband and I came to visit Anne in Newport. I think was the time she took us all to the polo matches. She was such a warm generous hostess. I can only imagine how you will miss her but I hope the memory of the warm powerful presence she surely had in your lives will help sustain you in your grief."

"Todd, so sorry for your loss:A Blessing of TearsLife is what we are given, living is what we do with it, and then we die. Probably nothing gives life its keenness and poignancy as the presence of death and dying. The death of one's mother is about close to home as we get, but the death of friendship and trust remind us of the richnesswhich both give to life and our living of it.There are different qualities of dying. The quality of our dying reflects the quality of our living, the quality of our living determines the quality of our dying.May my living honour my parents.May my living honour my family and friends.May my living repay the debt of my existence. "Please know that Rob & I loved Loie. She was always so very warm and friendly and we always enjoyed seeing her whenever we were in Newport. I am so very sorry that she is no longer with us. One of my favorite memories of her was when we spent a week with her in the apartment upstairs. She was a wonderful person, making sure we had everything we needed, taking us on a boat tour of Newport, sharing dinners with us, telling us about how she and Jack built up their business, bringing us to a polo match. My favorite was when she took us to the old stables where she and Jack use to ride...I could tell that it was a special place for her and it held many good memories. She loved her Connemara pony, Del Boy, and was so proud of his accomplishments. Loie will be missed by us and I truly hope she is at peace and happy. Our sincerest sympathies to her family.-Carolyn & Rob McEvitt"
