Dennis Patrick Crowley, Sr., 67, of New Bedford, MA and Bradenton, FL, died on August 28, 2016. He was born August 24, 1949 in Newport, RI. He was the youngest child of John Joseph Crowley and M. Adele (McClanahan) Crowley. He leaves his wife, Mary (McCarthy) Crowley; his son, Dennis Patrick Crowley, Jr. and his wife Brandee (Hutchins) Crowley; his daughter, Jennifer Crowley Pratt and her husband Anthony Alden Pratt; his stepsons Derek Santos, Keith Santos, and Ryan Dennis Santos; his sister in law, Marsha (Frommer) Crowley. He also leaves his grandchildren: Nathan Christopher Crowley, Alexis Lynne Santos, A. Alden Pratt; Alexandra Andy Pratt, Ethan Keith Santos, Avery Jacqueline Santos, Hailey Nicole Santos, and Kaydence Lynn Santos. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents John Joseph and M. Adele Crowley and his siblings: Michael F. Crowley, John J. Crowley, Jr., and Margaret Ann (Crowley) Hanna. Dennis graduated from Rogers High School in Newport, RI and joined the United States Air Force working as a meteorologist. He was very proud of his twenty year service to the country. He also worked as the Communication Branch Head at the US Naval War College. Dennis loved the ocean. He belonged to the Coasters Harbor Navy Yacht Club and taught many people how to sail the Narragansett Bay. He enjoyed relaxing at the beach and upon retirement he moved with his wife Mary to enjoy the beaches of Florida. If Dennis wasn't near the ocean he could be found on the golf course. He spent many great days out on the course with family and friends. Dennis also dedicated many years of his life to helping those battling addictions. Many have reported being saved by his guidance and support. Dennis lived each day to its fullest. He always had a smile. He loved to bike, sail, and golf with loved ones. He loved to talk politics. The lanai in his Florida home was one of his favorite places to sit and smoke his pipe. Calling hours will be from 5-7 on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Connors Funeral Home in Portsmouth, RI. A funeral service will be held at 7. Burial will be private.
