Joan M. Peckham, 69, of Newport died Friday, January 26, 2018. Joan was born June 11, 1948 in Newport, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Albino Simas and the late Lillian (Ferris) Simas, and step daughter of Alice Simas of Newport. She is the wife of James Peckham, Sr.Joan grew up in Newport and graduated Rogers High School. She later followed her husband through his military career to Japan, California, Washington, Maine, and Virginia before returning to Newport. She enjoyed country line dancing.She is survived by her husband James Peckham, Sr., three children: LTC James Peckham, Jr. US Army, and his wife Tanya of Sumter, SC; Christopher Peckham of Newport, and Jennifer Albro and her husband Timothy of Fall River, MA, three brothers: Kenneth Simas of Tiverton, RI; Albino Simas, Jr. of Warwick, RI; and Raymond Simas of Newport, RI; and eight grandchildren: Aaron, Nicolle, and Ashley Ramey, Patrick Albro, Jacob, Kendall, Spencer, and Samuel Peckham.She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Silvia.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 30, from 4:00-7:00pm at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00am in the Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Newport Memorial Park.
