"I am very devastated by this news, having just found this out today. Steve was a friend and teammate of mine with the Reds men's baseball league. He was a gentleman, true friend, a great person. This is terrible news and along with losing another teammate Jay Quinn this is hard to imagine that both of the amazing souls are gone. I am grateful for Steve's support during my first year on the team going back about 6 years ago. We enjoyed some good times at the field and even had to face each other as I went to another team to pitch. I will miss him. Matt Securo"

"My heartfelt sympathies go out to Steve's family. We both worked at NUWC, but I know him best because of his love of baseball. We played together with the Blues in Rhode Island's Men's Senior Baseball League and shared a unique friendship often encountered between pitchers and catchers. Steve was a great athlete; he could play any position on the field and did; moreover, he was a great human being. Steve was highly respected by everyone on our team. My thoughts and prayers are with the Souza family. - Tom Choinski"

Steve and I worked on a lot of the same test equipment, and we could always count on him with his knowledge to figure out problems. I'll really miss his insight and sense of humor.
