"As I saw her, Nancy Pontes was a professional class act - and I am very glad to have known her. Nancy and I worked together on some important planning issues for a few years at Newport Hospital. Then I moved away and didn't stay in touch with her. I stupidly thought there would always be time to reconnect.Many thanks for the video posted here - almost like getting to catch up with Nancy herself. Almost, but of course, not really. The lovely video though does help my hurt and my heart: to see her successful, happy kids... . and that she had time with grand babies and to create some beautiful gardens. I suspect that the world doesn't get many thoroughly good people. Nancy Pontes was one of those people. Nancy Lynne Pontes, 76, of Barrington, and formerly of Little Compton, died on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Tockwotton on the Waterfront in East Providence, RI. Nancy was born June 11, 1941 in Fall River, MA, the daughter of the late Manuel and Marjorie (Chase) Cavaca. Nancy graduated from the Newport Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Salve Regina University and her master's degree in nursing from URI, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Mrs. Pontes was certified in geriatrics with a specialty in Alzheimer's disease and dementia.For over 25 years, Nancy was a devoted advocate for her patients and their families. She implemented and lectured around the country on the importance of Memory Assessment and Pet Therapy Programs for the elderly. After retiring, Nancy spent time with her family and worked endless hours tending to her beautiful flower gardens as well as continuing her life long love of animals, especially dogs.She is survived by a son Thomas J. Pontes and his wife Jane of Bellingham, MA and a daughter Melissa J. Surprenant and her husband John of Dudley, MA, four grandchildren, Kathryn, Matthew, and Elizabeth Pontes of Bellingham, MA, and Peyton Surprenant of Dudley, MA, whom she loved dearly.
