"My deepest condolences to the Sullivan family, may you find comfort in prayer and the beautiful words of Isaiah 25:8 where God promises us that He will soon eliminate all death and suffering."
Margo FitzGerald Sullivan, age 75, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, passed away on November 1, 2018 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Margo was born in Newton, Massachusetts, the oldest daughter of the late Lawrence F. and Julie (Spring) FitzGerald. She grew up in Bourne on the Cape, graduating from Bourne High School, and then attending Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, following which she worked for several years as a secretary for an advertising agency on Newbury Street. With her marriage to Marty, she became a military spouse and enjoyed many years living in Phoenix, Arizona, and Italy and Germany while raising their two sons, returning to Bourne twice when her husband was remotely deployed.
Following her husbands retirement from the U.S. Air Force, the family relocated first to Newport and later to Portsmouth. Margo returned to work, first at the former New Visions for Newport County for seven years, and then to the Newport Naval Health Clinic, where she retired after 21 years in 2010.
Margo is survived by her husband Martin Sullivan, two sons, Colonel David M. Sullivan, USAF (Ret.) and his wife Mary (Gonzales) of Leesburg, Virginia; and Daniel L. Sullivan and his wife Evelyn (Murphy) of Middletown, and five grandchildren; David Martin Jr., Mclain, and Ainsley of Leesburg, and Michaela and Daniel of Middletown. She also leaves her sisters Paula MacDonald of Bourne, MA, Maxine Weeks (Bob) of Alamogordo, NM, Sue FitzGerald of Centerville, MA, and Julie Bulla (Tim) of Sagamore, MA. She also leaves her brother-in-law Frank Dennis of Middletown, RI, and sister-in-law Maureen Brady (Bruce) of Eden Prairie, MN, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 5, at 9:00 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Private burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts.
