Mildred "Millie" Valline, age 91 of Ames, Iowa, passed away July 1, 2020 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 4-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa with an 11:00 a.m. graveside service on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Story Memorial Gardens, Ames, Iowa.
Mildred Odessa Warner was born in Story County, Iowa on June 24, 1929, the daughter of Roy and Mayme (Utley) Warner. She attended school in Ames and married William Valline on April 12, 1947 in Boone, Iowa. The couple raised three sons, John, Gary and Darrell.
Millie was a caregiver and spent a lot of her time taking care of her boys as well as the neighborhood children. She also loved fishing with Bill, helping him attend to their garden, enjoyed watching and feeding the hummingbirds and had volunteered at Mary Greeley for many years in the gift shop. After Bill's retirement, he and Millie were snowbirds and retreated to Alamo, TX for winters. A few years ago, they were proud to donate a new group home for Friendship Ark. Inc. and it was named the Valline house.
Millie will be remembered by her son, John (Di) Valline of Nevada, and a sister-in-law, Amy Herman of Nevada, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Roy and Mayme; brother, Cleo Warner and sons, Gary Valline and Darrell Valline.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be directed to Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, IA.
