Marjorie Graber
November 25, 1923 - March 11, 2006

Marjorie Helen Graber, 82 of Wayland, IA, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Born November 25, 1923, in Henry County, IA, Marjorie was the daughter of Howard P. and Bessie Scarff Watts. She was a 1941 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Prior to her marriage she was employed at the Henry County Savings Bank. On May 23, 1943, she married Willis Graber at Wayland, IA. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2004. Mrs. Graber worked side by side with her husband for years on the farm. She worked for various restaurants and the Parkview Home. She retired from the Congregate Meals in Wayland, where she served as the site manager. Marjorie was an active member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. She was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, served as an usher, and was a member of the Mennonite Women, Primetimers and the New Life Group. In retirement, she and her husband volunteered at several church camps. While living on the farm, the Grabers hosted numerous young women in the International Visitors Exchange Program and provided foster care for many girls. She is survived by two sons, Larry Graber and his wife Vi of Wayland, IA, and Wendell Graber and his wife Linda of Story City, IA; one foster daughter Vickie and her husband Doug Paulsen of Eldridge, IA; eight grandchildren, Teresa Warren, Wendy Black, Carrie Graber, Heidi Graber, Stephanie Graber, Troy Graber, Ryan Paulsen and Danielle Paulsen; and by one great-grandson, Wyatt Black. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Willis; an infant son Ronald Dean Graber in 1945; a daughter Sharon Kay Graber in 1970; and by a brother Harold Watts. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Crooked Creek Camp, Sugar Creek Mennonite Library and to the Mennonite Women in her memory.
