Sandra T. "Sandy" Wenz, 74, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., on Monday, November 6, 2017, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m., followed by The Christian Vigil Service. The family will greet friends following the service. A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, with The Reverends Paul Connolly and Bruce DeRammelaere, celebrants. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Houghton, IA. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Mercer County Relay for Life, HCI Care Services of Mt. Pleasant, or St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Born March 20, 1943, in West Point, IA, Sandra Theresa was the daughter of Everett Frances and Delores Sanders Lutz. She was a graduate of St. John's High School in Houghton, IA. On May 7, 1972, she married Gerald Wenz in Elko, NV. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2004. Following graduation Sandy moved to the Quad Cities, where she worked as a waitress, and then to Omaha, NE, for a few years. For 25 years, Sandy managed two shops at Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah. She returned to Mt. Pleasant for a period of time, where she worked at The Halltree and Hy-Vee Gas. Sandy then moved to Silvis, IL, where she met her significant other, Ardon "Ardie" Thompson. Upon his death, she moved back to Mt. Pleasant where she lived until her death. A member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Sandy was active in The Altar and Rosary Society. Her favorite pastime was being with her family. She enjoyed growing flowers and loved to travel. Sandy was a big supporter of Relay for Life while living in Silvis and participated in the Mt. Pleasant Relay for Life. Sandy shared her love of life with her three sisters, Marlene (Raymond) Bentler of Salem, IA, Marge (Larry) Stuecker of West Point, IA, and Chris (RJ) Dodson of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a sister-in-law, Betty Lutz of West Point, IA; a special niece, Linda Rich; along with several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Jerry, Sandy was preceded her in death by her brother, Ray Lutz.
