"I have just learned of Bob's passing, and wanted to share my condolences with you, Bob's family. I write for the "Farm News," and Bob started emailing me about my farm humor columns when he was 98 years old. I found his brief emails to be SO humorous, and filled with the wit and wisdom that can only come from someone of his advanced years. We became friends via email, and he even provided some guidance to me when our family (your typical farm family) was going through a rough time. My husband and I stopped to physically introduce ourselves to him and visit with him once while driving across the state on a short trip we took. We were surprised at how quickly he could stand up from sitting on the couch, when we (much younger than he) had a bit of a struggle getting our knees to cooperate as well!) He often spoke of my books I wrote about farm life, and he sent me his book that he wrote, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I considered him a good friend, and I will treasure even more now his book, and the CD with it that features his beautiful singing voice. He lived a good, long life, and I am grateful our paths crossed--because of the very first email he sent to me. May God bless Bob, and hold you all in His peace. --Karen Schwaller, Milford, IA."
