Eva Kaplan, born to Pearl and Morris Schnitzer in Dallas, TX on October 12, 1930, passed away on July 28th, 2020 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her older brother Bernard (Shirley), her younger brother Ben (Marilyn) and her grandson George Orley. She is survived by her four daughters Marcia (Michael Privitera), Cynthia Reynolds (Peach), Carolyn (Jon Sanford) and Diane Orley (Randy). She leaves adoring grandchildren Jay Reynolds, Sarah Reynolds, Sam Todd, Ben Todd, Isaac Privitera, Ian Privitera, Amanda Orley and Sam Orley, along with many nieces and nephews.
Eva was ferociously devoted to her children, and was a caring, loving matriarch until her final moments. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and while she couldn't see her beloved family in person during the Covid-19 era, she vigorously kept up with everyone by way of phone calls and video. In addition to her family, Eva never met a stranger, and created an extended family of friends who she kept close throughout her life.
Eva was a real estate agent for 41 years with Ebby Halliday, and considered her clients, many of whom were members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and other local cultural institutions, extended members of her family as they settled and established themselves in the Dallas area. Her love of music was second only to her love of people.
Truly at home in her kitchen, Eva's spirit is carried on by the memories of family and friends who were guests at her table. She was a gifted hostess who loved nothing more than bringing people together to enjoy good food and company. Her signature carrot cake is legendary and she proudly released a cookbook, "From the Heart," at the age of 70, which featured family recipes that are treasured by those lucky enough to receive a copy.
Eva's treasured friendships dating back to her childhood days in South Dallas sustained her throughout her life and the circle was continually enlarged with her natural capacity to include and share. While family, cooking, and real estate kept her more than busy, her close-knit circle of friends kept her inspired encouraged, and optimistic throughout her life.
As a lifelong Democrat who never missed a day of news, her family asks that you give to the Biden campaign or Democratic candidates of your choice in her memory.
