Our visits were cherished by me as I got to know her as a dear friend, instead of a church acquaintance. I?m saddened by her death, but as we talked about in our conversations, she was ready. Betty Jean Aldinger, 97, of Hampton, IA passed away peacefully on August 8, 2020, at the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice in Mason City, IA. She was born on January 23, 1923 on the family farm south of Ventura where she was raised until her high school graduation from Ventura High School in 1941. Betty had various jobs after high school, her favorite was working for the Ritz Supper Club in Clear Lake, IA.
On her birthday, January 23, 1944, she married Rex T. Aldinger from Alexander, IA. When Rex was called to serve his country during World War II, Betty was able to join him at his duty station in Greely, CO. After serving their country they returned to Alexander in 1946 to work for Rex's father, W.P. Aldinger, in the family business, a general store. After his father's death in 1972, Rex became the sole proprietor of the family business, With Betty at his side, together they operated the store and built a bigger business to include a hardware store and national egg processing division. In 1985 they retired to Hampton, IA and lived on the Hampton Golf Course & Country Club.
Rex and Betty enjoyed their retirement and took many trips together. Betty's greatest passion and enjoyment was her family and friends, visiting them as often as possible.
Betty leaves behind son, Dwight (Pam) Aldinger of Bellevue, NE, son-in-law, Gary Kriegel of Mason City, IA; granddaughter Candy (Todd) Golden of Omaha, NE; granddaughter Tara (Corey) Rife of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren Mara, Ryan & Connor Golden and Sophie, Sadie & Sam Rife; and her brother, Earl (Bill) William (Donna) Quintus of Apple Valley, MN; Betty was preceded in death by her husband (Rex); daughter Kathy Kriegel; parents Earl & Ruby Quintus; brothers Warren Quintus & Gordon Quintus; and sister Ivanell Seeberger.
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.

"When I was little, Rex Aldinger would come to our farm in Garner and pick up eggs from my mom. He would bring me a bag of candy which made me very happy. It wasn't until later when I got interested in the Radloff history that I reached out to Rex and Betty for information. They were always very kind and answered my questions. They also kept me informed of what was happening with others in the Radloff family. My husband Mike and I stopped to see her this past July 13 while we were in Iowa. It was so nice to see her and visit. I will cherish our time together. She always said she missed Rex and Kathy so much. Now she is with them and I know she is happy. "I met Betty after I started high school at CAL and became friends with Kathy. I recall spending overnights at their home in Alexander throughout high school and trips to Minneapolis for the conventions they went to for the store. After Rex passed away, I went on trips to Branson a few times with Betty and Kathy and Gary. We?d have a wonderful time wherever we went. I continued to stay in touch with Betty after Kathy passed away. She was always so kind to me and my family through the years. "I have so many memories of Betty through the years: baking Christmas cookies, preparing food for Uncle Rex' back-yard BBQs, and more recently traveling to Clear Lake and "boutique shopping," enjoying time spent with her in Hampton, and daring the winter weather to travel to Mayo Clinic.
