Twylah was born on August 2, 1930 at home in Cottonwood County, MN. Her parents were Cleber and Jessie (Morck) Kaushagen. She had three older brothers, 1 older sister and one younger sister. She was baptized at Old Westbrook Lutheran near Westbrook, MN. The pastor baptized her still speaking in the Norwegian language. When Twylah was 2 years old, the family moved to Geneva, MN until they moved to Albert Lea, MN her 8th grade year. Twylah enjoyed singing in choirs, sports, being in the girl scouts, and friends and family growing up. She was confirmed at First Lutheran in Albert Lea and graduated in 1948 from Albert Lea High School.

Twylah continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA. She met her husband, Lester Larson, singing in the choir at Waldorf. They both graduated in 1950 and were married at First Lutheran in Albert Lea, MN on July 23, 1950. It was the beginning of a loving, caring marriage that lasted for 54 ½ years, and they were blessed with 7 children, 18 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren and a lifetime of love and memoires for her family.

They moved throughout their marriage to a few communities where Lester served as an ELCA pastor: Moland and West Concord, MN and Dubuque, Elk Horn, Urbandale, and Grimes, IA. Twylah enjoyed entertaining guests in the various parsonages. She served well as the pastor's spouse and in leading Bible studies. Every parsonage home they lived in was improved upon by Twylah. She kept a clean, organized home and even though she had 7 kids to get ready, we never were late! She was an excellent seamstress for the benefit of her 5 daughters and enjoyed Norwegian rosemaling painting. She made countless delicious meals for her large family her whole life. For every Thanksgiving and Christmas meal she would make lefse for her family. So many of these traditions live on in her family.

In retirement, Twylah and Lester enjoyed 10 winters in Alamo, TX. They enjoyed camping with the Wally Byam Airstream club, getting together with friends and attending church at Victoria Palms where Lester served as pastor for many winters. Twylah has resided in Byron, MN for the last 21 years where she has enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was an active member of Christ Lutheran.

Twylah turned 90 years old 2 weeks ago and she enjoyed the day with family, attending church and sharing a meal together. Family was everything to Twylah. She loved, prayed for and tried to help her family her whole life through.

Survivors include 7 children: Ruth Larson of Byron, MarJean (Dennis) Damerval of Byron, Julie Bindel of Grimes, IA, Nancy (Brent) Hoegh of Byron, Eric (Annbjorg) Larson of Vikesaa, Norway, Eli (Leanna) Larson, of West Concord, MN Kaia (Jeff) Long of Byron, 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, a sister, Vera Olson of Albert Lea, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Lester, her parents, 4 siblings, Earl (Mary), Oren, Roy Kaushagen, Phyllis (Clark) Lyback, and her husabnd's siblings Lorraine (Erwin) Brandt, David J. Larson, and Paul (Phyllis) Larson and son-in-law, Phil Bindel.

"I will always remember Twyla's comment to me when we met at our JOY group. Remembering that my mother Rose Ronnenberg was the lady that drove into the pond on the west end of Byron in 2008, July. Twyla was a wonderful and friendly lady. Her family is a tribute to her life. We will all miss at CLC. Love from Sandy Erickson."

Carol/Lowell Holum wrote on Aug 19, 2020:

"Lowell and I are sad to hear of Twylah?s passing but she was ready to go meet our Lord and Lester. We have such great memories of your Mom and Dad. First by meeting MarJean, Nancy and Kaia at CLC, then finding out Lester and Twylah were in south TX and Pastor Lester was the minister at Victoria Palms where we wintered. We introduced ourselves to them from the big city of Byron where we know your daughters. Immediate friendship. Your parents invited us to their house for Mexican food. We didn?t eat Mexican because I didn?t have recipes. Needless to say, I have Twylah?s recipes. Then knowing they have an Airstream travel trailer, Les/Dorothy Hartleip, Lowell and I and your parents took our travel trailers/motor home to West Salem, Wisconsin for a long camping weekend. Such great memories. Then after your Dad passed, Twylah invited us over to her house for pie and coffee. She was always the perfect host. We will miss her but rejoice that she?s in God?s heavenly kingdom. God Bless the Family Lowell/Carol"
