In loving memory of

Jeannine "Jean" Simons
March 30, 1930 - September 9, 2020

Private family services will be held with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.

Jeannine "Jean" Simons, 90, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away September 9, 2020, at Leahy Grove Assisted Living in Hampton. Due to COVID-19, a private family service will be held on September 12, 2020, with burial at the Hampton Cemetery.

Jean was born March 30, 1930, in Waverly, Iowa, and was adopted and raised by John and Pearl (Walsh) Pohl. She was a 1947 graduate of Dumont (Iowa) High School. On February 26, 1948, she married Newman Simons in Owatonna, Minnesota, and they made their home in rural Franklin County. She raised their four children - Connie, Karen, Debra and Scott - as a busy stay-at-home mother.

Jean worked alongside Newman as a farm wife and was an active member of the Hampton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She volunteered at church and with the Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary, working in the gift shop and at the bloodmobile. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter, and enjoyed reading, knitting, going to garage sales and flea markets, working in her flower beds, and spending time with her grandchildren, their kids and her friends. She especially loved her time at Little Boy Lake in Longville, Minnesota. A highlight in the summer of 2020 was staying a few days at the farm and seeing her family's many trucks parked in the driveway when they came to visit.

Jean is survived by: daughters Connie (Gene) Liekweg of Hampton, Karen (Doug) Musson of Iowa Falls and Debra Heldt (Russ Ball) of Sumner; son Scott Simons (Ann Flickinger) of Hampton; 16 grandchildren - Carrie, Michael and Joseph Jorgensen; Chad, Todd and Jeff Mulford; Eric and Patrick Reisinger; Katy and Molly Heldt; Kyle, Kasey, Kristopher and Mallory Simons; and Brendan and Megan Houser - along with 36 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Linda Pohl of Hampton, Betty Walsh of Mason City, Rosalyn (Murrel) Symens of Hampton and Mary Simons of New Hartford; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, daughter-in-law Holly Simons, brothers Keith Walsh and Darwin Pohl, and an infant sister.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Leahy Grove for the excellent care she received and the friendships she enjoyed the last four years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Hampton Public Library, North Iowa Youth for Christ in Hampton or the Hampton United Methodist Church.

"Jean had a way about her that just drew me in. The way she lit up when I walked into the room. The way she saved me a place at the table for a meal. The twinkle in her eyes as she told me about a family story, and when she thought she got away with something. I Loved her and will look forward to seeing her again in paradise. I imagine she'll be holding the door (closed) and giggling on the other side."
