Laura Ann Smith
December 18, 1936 - September 9, 2020

Laura Ann Herbold Smith, 83, a long time resident of Colfax passed away on September 9, 2020 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020, at 1:00 pm at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will take place at Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the funeral home. She was born on December 18th, 1936 in Newton, and was the daughter of Roy and Irene McNeal Herbold. She had many fond memories of growing up on a farm near Kellogg, Iowa and playing the piano at the Lutheran Church. She was very athletic, and played basketball during high school. She loved horses and excelled in Barrel Racing, and many other classes. She also placed fourth in Texas at the AQHA Select World Show.

Laura worked as a Telephone Operator in Newton when she first graduated from High School. She was also a Nurse's Aid for many years, and worked for Principal Financial in Des Moines. She enjoyed being involved in her children's activities including Blue Birds, Camp Fire, and a volunteer Den Mother. She also coached girl's little league softball.

She is survived by her five children, David (Mary) Smith, Cindy Smith, Melissa (Tom) Edwards, Lisa (Charlie) Gibbons, and Rebecca (Michael) Chamberlain. Also left to honor her memory are 10 Grandchildren: Tiffany, Elaine, Scott, Christopher, Caitlyn, Nicholas, Hannah, Hayden, Haylee, and Joshua along with 7 Great Grandchildren: Caleb, Madelynn, Ella, Addison, Raelyn, Claire, Michael, and another Great Grandchild arriving soon. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Roy (Bud) Jr., a sister, Betty, in infancy along with two Grandchildren in infancy: Rachel and Olivia.
