In loving memory of

Steven Russell Davis
October 3, 1965 - September 1, 2020

Steven Russell "Steve" Davis, age 54, of Phoenix, AZ died Tuesday, September 1, 2020, in Phoenix.

Steven was born October 3, 1965 in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of John R. and Constance Thomas Davis. In July of 2003 he married Rebecca Bence in Glendale, AZ. She survives.

Steve moved with his family to Western Illinois in 1969, when he was four years old. He lived in Lake Shore Hills, and attended school in Liberty through the second grade. They then moved to Quincy, where he attended St. Mary's Elementary and Jr. High School. The Davis family returned to Phoenix, and Steve went to Cortez High School, where he played football as a starting lineman for three years.

After graduation, Steve started working in the construction trade as a framer. At this time, Steve developed a love for Ford Mustangs, and he owned several new ones. He would take road trips all over the state of Arizona at a moment's notice, and this led to numerous trips to the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Peyson, and Prescott, among other places. Steve loved the desert and the mountain beauty of the state.

When the construction trade slowed in the late 1980s, Steve went to work at the large, full service car washes that were prevalent in Phoenix. He was always a hard worker, and he worked his way up to several management positions. Most of the rest of his life was spent going back and forth between construction and car washes.

Steve absolutely loved the Chicago Bears, and on big game days he would wear his favorite jersey and paint his face and arms to watch the game at local sports bars. Steve also loved the holiday season, and he was big into celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: his brother, Wayne R. (Jeannie Lewis) Davis of Quincy, IL; a son, Ryan Christopher Davis of Phoenix, AZ; and five step-children.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

"Rest in Peace, fellow Cortesian. We got the heads up from Dale Booher. You were in my kid sister's time, I was Class of 1977. We hope to find out where you are interred or that you were cremated, so that we alumni of Cortez High School in Phoenix can make a memorial for you on our 'virtual memorials', so you are never forgotten. We are still checking for your yearbook photo(s). Tim Kovacs, Class of 1977. tkovacs59@gmail.com"

"I met Steve about two to three years ago now. I worked at the pizza shop near where he lived. I didn't know the extent of Steve's circumstances but I cared for him. I would often make him his favorite pizza or slice, which was double sausage and extra sauce. Almost everyday I would see him with a different book in his hands and when he'd see me he would always wave and nod. He was there for me when I needed somebody to talk to. I would often stay behind after we closed and have a beer and talk with Steve about what was going on in our neighborhood or going on with me. He would always listen and I truly appreciated that. He wouldn't share much but I knew he was a reserved guy. I hope he knew how much he meant to me. I am proud to call him my friend. I will truly miss him. My condolences to his friends and family. "

"I had the pleasure of living with Steve for 3 years. During that time we had many fun times together. Every Sunday we'd head out on our bikes and go to breakfast, then it was onto exploring different areas of town. We'd bike 10-15 miles and then end up at our favorite bar for a beer or two. Steve was very quiet spoken but he had the greatest sense of humor ever. We could laugh for hours. He was very creative and would decorate our apartment for every holiday to the enth degree. For football season, we were clued to the TV, he watching his beloved Bears and mine, the Patriots. We NEVER missed a game. I could go on and on about our time together but I want to say that I was certainly blessed to have been a part of his life and he will be missed very much. Until I see you again Steve!!! Love, Jane "

"I remember Stevie from the time his family lived in Quincy when we were kids. Back then he was kind of shy and quiet till he got to know you. We used to love to go to their house on Harrison street and spend the night. They had a pool table in the basement that we played on all the time. We used to go out on the river in Uncle Jacks boat and spend time on Hogback island swimming. Stevie was always fun to spend time with and liked pranks. You will be sorely missed cousin, we love you so much. May God be with Wayne and the family."

"Although I have never met Steve I did talk to him a lot on the phone. Me and his brother Wayne Davis have been together for 19 years now. I wish I could have met him, l know he had a good sense of humor And the smile so bright that it could light up any room. I know he had a soft spot for stray animals, and was willing to do what ever it took to help a friend in need. Rest in peace Steve Love you like a brother. "
