In loving memory of

Michael J. Horvath
July 15, 1938 - September 18, 2020

On September 18, 2020, Michael J. Horvath passed peacefully at home in the company of his wife and daughter. He had filled eighty-two years on this good earth with joy, friendship, and a unique compassion.

Michael was born in Philadelphia on July 15, 1938 to Michael M. and Elisabeth (Ludwig) Horvath and grew up with his brother Edward in Ambler. He graduated from Williamson Trade School as a machinist and millwright in 1957, then joined the Army and proudly served his country. After exchanging his meticulously-repaired first car for an engagement ring, Michael married his life-long love, Barbara Wenner, in 1958. Their wedding was held on the longest day of the year, and the bright arc of their love extended through 62 years of marriage; it was the foundation of their family. Michael and Barbara had three children, Sherrie, Michele, and Edward, but made room in their home for many outside their immediate circle.

The most important things in the world to Michael were his family, his deep and abiding faith, and his wide circle of friends. He patiently fostered life and beauty in everything around him, whether people, plants, animals, or objects carefully built or mended. Those who knew him will miss his generous hugs, his hearty laugh, his quiet words of encouragement and advice, his "In life..." ruminations, the kindness and courtesy he extended to everyone, and the time he always took for a chat.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (Wenner) Horvath of Harleysville; his daughter Sherrie (Kevin) Flanagan of Pennsburg, his daughter Michele (Tom) Gote' of Lancaster, and his son Edward of Lansdale, and the seven grandchildren he treasured; Ashley (John) Terison, Daniel Flanagan, John Gote', Sarah Horvath, Rachel (Ryan) Tucker, Jeffrey Horvath, and Michael Horvath. Michael is also survived by his brother Edward (Sylvia) Horvath of Philadelphia; and a nephew and niece.

"Genuinely one of the nicest men I have ever known. Whether it was business or pleasure, any discussions with Mike always involved family, doing the right thing, and ensuring the result was a win-win for everyone. Truly a FAMILY MAN!!"
