Alfred Grant Miles
After a lengthy battle against cancer and pneumonia, Alfred Grant Miles, a 68-year-old rural Brimfield resident, died peacefully Friday, September 25, 2020. He was born November 13, 1951, to Alfred G. and Elizabeth A. Miles of rural Elmwood.
He is survived by his lifetime partner, Sharon R. Holland; one sister, Janet L. Mason; one brother, Phillip W. Miles; many cousins, including Gregg Silzer; two nephews; and many "buddies". He was also "Uncle Grant" to three great-nephews and three great-nieces.
After graduating from college with a degree in Industrial Technology, Grant moved on to various construction projects in the Midwest and rebuilt a rental home on the family farm. In the mid-80's, Grant moved to Oklahoma City where he worked in various construction trades until 2001. He moved back to the Elmwood area, bought a "fixer-upper" home, and continued working on that home until his death.
He was passionate about his vehicles, his shop, his rental home, tree planting, gardening, and sharing time in conversation with others. He could often be seen on a summer day weeding his garden while seated on the ground. Grant, a perfectionist at many skills, was often called upon by family and friends to "fix" something.
On the afternoon of Sunday, October 4, 2020, family and friends are invited to the Yates City Community Building for a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m. Food and fellowship will follow from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Plan to join the family in celebrating Grant's life!
Interment of ashes will be held at a later date at Southport Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to an education fund for his nieces and nephews at the Bank of Yates City.

"We have so many good memories of Grant from high school and right after.
campouts in the cabin in the woods

Grant was such a fun, kind soul. He was always upbeat and would start singing to himself. He had a great voice.
And as it says in the obituary, he could fix anything. (although it might take him awhile to get up the energy)
Also I am not surprised he bought a fixer upper. In high school, I can remember him making drawings of stuff he wanted to fix up in his house.
Our condolences and prayers to his family."
