In loving memory of

Jack William Landon
August 15, 1934 - September 17, 2020

Jack William Landon, 86, passed away on September 17, 2020. He was the husband of Marlene Landon, sharing 60 years of marriage together. Jack was born August 15, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to Bill and Emma Landon. He graduated from Thomas M. Cooley High School in 1953 and continued his education at Hillsdale College, where he belonged to the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He graduated from the University of Detroit with his Business and Administration Degree in 1969. Jack worked for Chrysler Corporation for more than 35 years, as a Purchasing manager, retiring in 1991.

Jack and Marlene spent their younger days in Shelby Township, Michigan, where they raised their three children; Clark, Leslie, and Glenn. Upon retirement, they purchased a home in northern Michigan on Torch Lake where he was able to enjoy his passions for the water and boating. During the winter seasons, he and Marlene would travel to Naples, Florida where they enjoyed the warmer weather.

Jack was a family man and loved doting on his grandchildren. He loved to read. National Geographic and the Smithsonian were a couple of his favorites. He was a smart man with a great sense of humor. Jack was so full of love and laughter for his family and many friends. Everyone who knew Jack has their own special memory of him and stories they could share.

Jack is the beloved father to Leslie Rindal, Glenn Landon, and the late Clark Landon. He is also the cherished grandfather to Jeremy and Nathan Rindal.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 2pm. It will be held at 4196 Summer Place, Shelby Township, MI 48316.

"My cousin.....Jack (AKA ?Cousin Nice?) seemed to always turn up at my house when I was growing up to convince my Dad to go off on some ?secret mission? that the two of the, loved. Sometimes it was a trip to Kmart, sometimes to Windsor Canada for the afternoon. They were thick as thieves and always laughing. They inspired each other to write silly, Dr Seuss-esque poems about life?s silly adventures.....drinking at deer camp, directions for saving the septic tank at the family Christmas Eve party....everything was fodder for their outrageous humor. Later when Jack and Marlene escaped to Torch Lake I would stop by on the way to retrieve my husband from the Chicago-Mac race. My daughters and I spent many delightful days pestering Jack and threatening to track sand into the house. The truly special times were when my Mom, Ella, was convinced to tag along for the visit. Jack was larger than life with a booming voice and laugh to match. He was an unparalleled Christmas Eve host and a neat nik I loved to tease. I?m sure he and George are tearing it up together again. "This is a tribute to Jack, as well as a tribute to the Landon family. I met Clark back in high school in the late 70?s and it was the start of a long, amazing friendship. If you wanted to find Clark, you?d likely find me. We affectionately referred to each other as ?boss.? The minute I met Jack and Marlene, I felt at home. They were my ?parents away from home.? Clark was my partner in crime (fun), Glenn was an accomplice by default (Clark was his hero...I felt anyway) and Leslie was the voice of reason, especially when Jack and Marlene were away......or not, now that I think about it. We didn?t always know what reason was, but Leslie was there to remind us. Some of the funniest stories I?ve heard are about Jack and his buddies and some of their adventures. I?ve been fortunate to meet some of them. Let?s just say the apple didn?t fall far from the tree. I remember the time Clark and I didn?t want to go to school, so Marlene called in sick for me so I didn?t have to ask my mom. She knew we?d use the day appropriately (thank you, Marlene). The day we were restoring the teak on the Mako (boat) in the back yard while Jack gave his opinion on how to proceed while sipping a martini and smoking a Marlboro. Inspiration. Heidi. Awesome puppy. I can?t even begin to name her whole name but it was something like ?Heidi von gossner vos bonadoor from rochester?. What a name. Longer than her little body :) Just want to say that Anne and I love the Landon family and pray for you during this time of grief. May your memories comfort you and guide you through. Jack (dad) is always with you. Much love, Ken and Anne"
