Betty F. Stotser 10/15/2020

Betty F. Stotser, 89 of Marshalltown, IA passed away Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Grandview Heights Nursing and Rehab in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 11:00 am., Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers memorials a memorial has been established. The family requests that everyone wear a mask to the visitation and service. Betty was born February 15, 1931 to John and Tilda (Jennings) Vecera in Marshalltown. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1949. Betty received her AA from Marshalltown Community College and her BA in education from the University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to Robert Stotser on April 28, 1973 at the Iowa River Church of the Brethren. Betty taught history at Roosevelt Jr. High School in Cedar Rapids, IA. She later taught history for many years at Miller Jr. High School In Marshalltown. Betty also owned and operated the Bookmark in downtown Marshalltown for over 20 years. She was an avid reader. Betty was on a bowling league for many years and also enjoyed playing golf. She loved card games of all kinds and always had a jigsaw puzzle in the works. Betty's love of animals was evident in the many pets she owned over the years.

Betty will be missed by her two sisters; Joyce Adkisson, Sally Ruth, both of Marshalltown, a step daughter, Lori Wille of Williams, IA, four nieces; Lori (Don) Carlon of Marshalltown, Kellie Ruth of Owatonna, MN, Nancy (Mark) Larson of Marshalltown, Peggy Bailey of Chandler, AZ, and a nephew, Joel Vecera of Cove, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, two brothers; Joe Jennings, Tommy Vecera, two sisters; Lydia Harvey, Julia Stalzer, a niece, Diane Stalzer, a step son, Michael Stotser, and step son-in-law, Joe Wille.

"So sorry for your loss. Mrs. Stotser was a great teacher. I looked forward to my classes with her at Miller Jr. High. I was so happy when she opened the book store. She did remember me after all those years. We both had a love of reading. I would stop in every week to see what she recommended next! I will always remember her when I drive down Main Street...or open a good read."
