Dortha May Borts
November 8, 1938 - November 16, 2020

SIGOURNEY-Dortha Borts, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, age 82, of Sigourney, died Monday, November 16, 2020, at the Sigourney Health Care Center.
Dortha was born November 8, 1938, near Knoxville, to Tommy DeMoss, Sr. and Clara (Bailey) DeMoss. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1956. On January 19, 1963, she married Don Borts in Knoxville. The couple lived in Mingo, Ames and Pocahontas before moving to Sigourney. Dortha worked at Vernon Company in Newton, Iowa State University, Sigourney Elementary School, Greenley Corporation and Sigourney flower shops before retiring. She was a member of P.E.O. and the Sigourney United Methodist Church. Dortha enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 17 years, traveling the United States - visiting all 50, going to Branson, square dancing, gardening, flowers, bowling, watching the races in Oskaloosa, fishing, was a wonderful cook and made numerous crafts.
Survivors include her husband: Don of Sigourney; daughter: Susan (Paul) Engelken and their son Zackery Engelken of Woodward; son: David (Tracy) Borts and their children Emily and Jack Borts; four siblings: Sharon Dykstra, Danny DeMoss, Mary DeMoss and Rita DeMoss; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Tommy DeMoss, Floyd DeMoss and John DeMoss.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at Ashton Cemetery near Mingo. The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page. Burial will be at Ashton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.

A memorial fund has been established for P.E.O. and Essence of Life Hospice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Dortha and her family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
