In loving memory of

Joyce Alvern Berg
November 29, 1927 - November 16, 2020

Joyce "JB" Berg passed away on November 16, 2020 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island, Minnesota.

Joyce Alvern Berg was born on November 29, 1927 in Roscoe Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota to parents Anton and Minnie (Olson) Berg. He attended rural schools in Goodhue County and farmed with his father at a young age.

Joyce married Irene Miller on December 22, 1952. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956. After returning to Minnesota, he worked for the Kahler Corp from 1956 - 1957 and IBM from 1957-1986.

JB and Irene moved to Oronoco in 1962. He was a member of the Oronoco School Board, Oronoco City Council, and a charter member of the Oronoco Fire Department. After retirement from IBM he owned and operated JB's Saw Sharpening Service in Oronoco for 12 years.

JB enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling in his spare time. He preferred to be busy so when not babysitting or attending countless school events for his grandchildren he could be found tinkering in his shop woodworking while listening to country 8 track tapes. He has built many candle holders, stools and birdhouses over the years that are proudly displayed in his kids and grandchildren's homes.

After his diagnosis of Macular Degeneration and gradual loss of his eyesight he was forced to slow down. He spent time making recordings of the stories of his life and sitting in the sunshine. He cherished life and his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Berg of Oronoco, MN; children, Susan (Tom) Turner of Rochester, MN; Paul (Robyn) Berg of Goodhue, MN; grandchildren, Derek, Scott, Chelsey, Randy, Marlee, Parker; great grandchildren, Dylan, Anna, Simone, Liam, Cora, Jaxson; brother, Allen Berg of Hastings, MN; sister, Rosemary (Percy) Thompson of Red Wing, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Minnie Berg; three sisters; and two brothers.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hansen at the Mayo Clinic, Mayo Hospice, Mayo Palliative Care, The Visiting Angels in Rochester and the Oronoco first responders for the care and support they have given Joyce over the years.

A private graveside service for immediate family was held on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Oronoco Cemetery in Oronoco, Minnesota. Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Berg family; to share a special memory or condolence please visit www.ranfranzandvinefh.com
