March 5, 1946 - November 18, 2020

Gary John Michael, 74, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
A Celebration of Gary's life will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 24th at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Masks are required and social distancing. During the visitation there can only be 15 people in the funeral home.
Survivors include his son Chad Michael and grandson Averey, friend Anita Michael, sister Marilyn Richardson, Nancy Herzberg, Mary (Bob) Jones, sister-in-law Mary Michael all of Fort Dodge.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Holly, parents Wayne and Dorothy (Baumgart) Michael, sister Shirley Bird and brother David Michael, brothers-in-law Carl Richardson, Dan Bird and Armand Herzberg.
Gary John Michael was born on March 5, 1946 in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1964. Gary served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1970. In 1978, he was united in marriage to Anita Peterson and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. The couple were later divorced but they remained good friends. Gary worked for Michael Construction for 20 years and then for Sande Construction until retiring in 1996. Gary was a member of the V.A. Department of the Blind and a longtime 30year friend of Dr. Bob and Bill W.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
