Anne Marie "Peg" Maney
May 29, 1930 - November 27, 2020

Anne Marie "Peg" Maney, of Elcho, died Friday, November 27, 2020, at Friendly Village in Rhinelander. She was 90 years old. She was born on May 29, 1930, in Antigo, a daughter of Linn and Gladys (Anderson) Johnson. She married Claude "Glenn" Maney on June 12, 1948, at Elcho. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2014.

She was a graduate of Elcho High School, class of 1948.

Peg was a bookkeeper at J.C. Penny in Antigo for ten years and then at Elcho Plumbing and Heating from 1978 until her retirement in 1995. In between, she was a waitress and worked at the grocery store in Elcho.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational and the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Auxiliary Unit 377, Elcho.

Peg loved to say that few people in Elcho realized that her real name is Anne including the full story of how she became Peg. Her family knows the story by heart.

Peg and Glenn moved to Elcho in 1952. They lived on the same property until 2017. Peg lived at the Friendly Village for the last three years. She enjoyed living there because she got to play Bingo or other games every day. She would proudly brag about her winning streaks.

Peg and Glenn enjoyed Friday night Fish Fry's often taking all available family members and friends to the Boondocks with them.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice (David) Huskey of Albany, OR; daughters-in-law, Jean Maney of Elcho and Jackie Ratliff Maney of Germantown; grandchildren, Shawn (Jessica) Maney, Adam (Amy) Huskey, Allen (Misty) Huskey, and Eric Hurkman; step-grandchildren Trent (Kristin) Jacoby, Tracy (Tim) Herman, Shane Hurkman, Denise (Bob) Doleshal and Todd (Sandra) Tesch; nine great-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Gerald "Buster" Johnson of Marshfield and Duane "Tuffy" Johnson of Rhinelander.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by sons, John and Robert; a sister, Mary Ellen Knuth; and brothers, Robert, James, Vernon, Ken, and Glen "Pork".

A memorial service will be held Saturday June 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. at United Church of Christ - Congregational in Elcho with Pastor Jeff Pommerening officiating. Burial will follow in Elcho Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
