In loving memory of

Robert McNeill
June 21, 1923 - November 16, 2020

On Monday, November 16th, 2020, Robert McNeill a loving and caring husband and father of three children died at the age of 97.

Robert was born on June 21,1923 in Seattle, WA to John Allen McNeill and Blanche Marie McNeill. He lived in Seattle throughout his childhood and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1941. He spent his youth working his way through the Boy Scout system and achieved the coveted Eagle Scout rank. He loved his involvement with the Scouts and spent much time at Camp Parsons both as a scout and as a volunteer.

After high school graduation, he was accepted to the University of Washington. His studies came to a sudden halt on December 7, 1941. He enlisted in the US Navy and was sent to boot camp in Farragut, ID. After boot camp, he was assigned to the 91st Naval Construction Battalion and spent the war years in various island campaigns in the Pacific including New Guinea, the and the Philippines.

After returning from the war effort, he completed his bachelor's degree in business but not before lettering in Volleyball at the UW. After college graduation, he secured a position at an insurance brokerage firm and continued his success in that industry until his retirement in 1986.

Although they had known each other for many years, Robert formally "dated" Dorothy Alsgaard towards the end of college, and they married in 1948. They loved each other deeply and lived happily in Seattle, Redmond and in Bellevue until Dorothy's passing in 2006.

Throughout his life, Robert was known as someone who could never be still. He was busy, active, and always in the middle of some fun. He was known as an avid golfer, a delightful friend to many, a coach and mentor to his kids, a middle of the road bridge partner for Dorothy and above all, a devoted husband.

Robert was preceded in death by his amazing wife, Dorothy McNeill, his father John and mother Blanche McNeill. He is survived by his three children, Judith Boyd, Douglas McNeill, Gregory McNeill and his four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Our family intends to have a celebration of life service in coordination with a Tahoma National Cemetery remembrance with military honors in the Summer of 2021.

Tributes

Kate wrote on Dec 3, 2020:

"One of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He welcomed me and my daughter whole heartedly into his family when my mom married GMAC, even before then really we felt apart of the family almost immediately. It speaks volumes of Bob that his family is so warm and inviting and just generous with their love. We loved him very much and will miss his presence deeply at family events when he would greet us with a such an enthusiastic smile and hello. See you on the other side to the sweetest bonus grandpa. ??"
