John "Jack" Heybruck
October 22, 1940 - December 5, 2020

John "Jack" Thomas Heybruck, 80, of Kingston, NY passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. John was born on October 22, 1940 in Kingston, NY; son of the late Fredrick F. Heybruck and Mary (Nolan) Heybruck.

John attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Kingston High School. He served in the US Navy from 1957-1961. While in the Navy, John was a certified sharpshooter sailing on the USS Dashell and USS Wadleigh, traveling the world. He proudly passed the "Gateway to the Top of the World" by crossing the Arctic Circle.

A Kingston Professional Firefighter for 21 years - John served as a dedicated firefighter and trustee for the department. While a firefighter, he received the Award of Valor for saving a human life and was named "Firefighter of the Year" in 1980. John loved being a firefighter. He retired from the Fire Department in 1988. From 1984-1988 he owned and operated the Cedar Tavern in Kingston with his family.

John valued summers in Bomoseen, Vermont; a place where cherished memories were made. He was a true outdoorsman - an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed cruises, and was known to be a great singer and dancer.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lee (Hommel) Heybruck; daughter and son in law, Kathy and Michael Ernst; grandson, Michael John Ernst; granddaughter, Lexi R. Ernst (Timothy J. Lavin, Esq.); sisters, Mary Ann Rasmussen (Jim) of Denver, CO, Theresa Gmeiner (Don) of FL, Patricia Reed (Marion) of Hyde Park, NY, Regina Heybruck of Denver, CO; brother, Joseph Heybruck, of OH, as well as his Goddaughter, Dr. Kaycie (Hommel) Kimberlin, DC and her family. The many nieces and nephews that also survive are grateful for the time they spent with "Uncle Jack" growing up, on the water and in the woods.

John was loved, respected, and will truly be missed by his family.

Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc., 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY, services and interment are being held privately. A memorial mass for John will be scheduled at a later date.
