Joseph L. Newkirk, 65, of Hurley, NY, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at home in Hurley, NY. He was born June 10, 1955 in Kingston, NY and was a graduate of New Paltz High School, Class of 1973.

Joseph was a truck and bus driver for many years, having driven for the Department of Corrections, Loop Transit, Mountainview Coach Lines, Mulligan, and Birnie Bus Service.

Joseph fondly remembered his high school days playing football in jersey #56. He was an avid Yankee fan. However, most of all he loved cars and motorcycles. On a nice day you could always find him fishing or driving around in his car listening to music.

Joseph was predeceased by his father, Stanley Newkirk and his sister, Susan Newkirk. Joseph is survived by his mother, Joyce (Seymour) Newkirk of Rifton, his son, Joseph Newkirk and his wife Sage of Kingston, his grandchildren, Austin, Nathaniel, Garrett, and Mackenzie, his brother, Daniel Newkirk and his wife Marcia of Hurley, his sister, Trisha Graff and her husband Rick of the Town of Ulster, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

"I just found out that he passed. He was best friends with my daddy Don E Palmateer and my mother Barbara M Palmateer ( Miller). He stop bye and all of them talked about school and what they did . Joe and my dad racing cars on the Flats in New Palzy my dad win and joe thought it was cool doing that. I Heard a lot of stories. My daddy was sick 10 years ago joe came and seen us and joe stopped coming around I guess scared of losing his friend. But he did lose his best friend this year on May 3-2020 and NO IT WAS NOT COVIE-19 Natural causes. Joe came to last to see my daddy Don Palmateer but he came to say good bye. There?s a lot of memories of all of them. Joseph JR I know what your going through is hard and I will not say it?s gets easy because it doesn?t get easy losing a parent is hard around holidays and birthdays wishing your dad was here my dad and your dad were best friends they had their ups and downs but they thought I?m very sorry to you and your family on the loss of your father I found out last night for my mom when her brother told her. Me and my mom are sending our prayers to you and your family from my family merry Christmas and happy New Year?s. But he?s with my dad now and his loved ones and they?re racing the cars and he?s at the races watching my dad race we?ll see them one day job keep your head up. "Have need heard from or seen Joe in decades, until I found him on Facebook. A northside kid we frequently end eup in the same circles growing up. He was a year behind me in school, but we were at the same school bus stop for three years. He was a good man and so sorry to hear of his sudden passing. "
