DONALD W. SHEPARD
WATERLOO, Iowa -Donald W. Shepard, 82, formerly of Muscatine, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, at English Valley Care Center, North English, Iowa.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to his family, in Donald's honor. Online condolences may be made to www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Donald was born on November 21, 1938, in Muscatine, the son of Donald L. and Ethel M. Spence Shepard. He married Ruth Marie Kintzle on December 30, 1961, in Muscatine. They had 59 years together before she preceded him in death.
Donald was a Muscatine High School graduate. He then graduated from Iowa State University with his teaching degree. Donald taught in Stuart, Iowa, then at Williamsburg High School. He retired from Hawkeye Community College where he taught Farm Agriculture. Donald and Ruth ran the Cornbelt Auction House in Evansdale for many years and taught auctioneering. They had lived in Williamsburg for 25 years and Waterloo for 30 years.
Donald liked playing fast pitch softball. He had played for the Muscatine High School and Williamsburg city league. Donald enjoyed playing golf in his free time.
Donald is survived by his four children, Dave Shepard and wife, Lori, of Marengo, Craig Shepard of Marengo, Douglas E. Shepard and wife, Jeselyn, of Florida, and Carrie Shepard of Decorah; 10 grandchildren, Sara and husband, Cody, Brittany, Travis and wife, Marina, Tyler and wife, Sondra, Katie and husband, Aaron, Rachelle and husband, Scott, Payne, Casey, Faith, Spencer; and 12 great grandchildren, Kaleb, Gracie, Megan, Asia, Wyatt, Beau, Klayton, Everett, Bailey, Addison, Gavyn, and baby Shepard due in May.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth, on November 16, 2020; a grandson, Derric J. Shepard; and his brother, Gary Shepard, on December 11, 2020.
