KEOTA-Roger L. Greiner, age 75, of Keota, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at his home.
Roger was born August 31, 1945, in Washington, to Frank and Naomi (Linnenkamp) Greiner and graduated from Keota High School in1963. On February 4, 1967, he married Patricia Sondag at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota. The couple lived and farmed near West Chester nearly 40 years before moving to Keota in December of 2005. Roger served in the Army Reserves for over 25 years and was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, served on the Mid-Prairie School Board and coached little league baseball. He enjoyed farming, tractor pulling, hunting, farm machinery sales and auctions and, most of all, his family.
Survivors include his wife: Patricia Greiner of Keota; four children: Julie (Tim) Stout of Washington, John (Angie) Greiner of Tiffin, Janelle (Aaron) Lawson of Rock Island, Illinois and Jeana (Todd) Lane of Marion; nine grandchildren: Jordan (Carter) Hesseltine, Emma Stout, Brooke Stout, Wyatt Stout, Alex Greiner, Peyton Greiner, Olivia Greiner, Brettlyn Lane and Crennington Lane; brother: Dennis (Lois) Greiner of Keota; sister-in-law: Lois Greiner of Washington and brothers-in-law: Don Gunderson of Dike and Larry Schachel of Carbondale, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren: Clayton and Chandler Greiner; three sisters: Mary Jo Gunderson, Joy Schachel and Norma Stutzman; brother: Jerry Greiner and brothers-in-law: Leroy Stutzman and Bill Redlinger.
Private family funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating. The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary's Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020, at the church, where there will be a wake service at 4:00 p.m. Mask usage and social distancing will be required at the visitation and funeral.
A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Parish, the Lions Club or Keota Fire Department. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Roger and his family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
